Can't access an Excel spreadsheet

S

Suzanne

I have Windows ME.
I have several Excel spreadsheets on a floppy
disc. I can't open one of them. I have been
able to open it in the past on the same pc.
________

When I try to open it, I got the following
message:

'CREDIT.xls' cannot be accessed. The file may
be read-only, or you may be trying to access a
read-only location. Or, the server the document
is stored on may not be responding.
________

I never assigned a read-only designation, there-
fore, there is no password. Is there any way to
open the file?

Suzanne,

You should never open a file directly from a floppy. That is just asking for
problems. Instead, copy the file from the floppy to the hard drive, open
from there, edit, save, and then copy back to floppy.

There are many ways to move (copy) a file from one location to another:
Window Explorer, under My Computer, etc. Simply use one that you are
accustomed to using and get the file to your HD and open it from there.

Put the floppy in the drive, go to [my computer] and double click the A
drive, then just grab the file with the mouse and drag it to your desk top
or select and copy, then paste it. Use the floppy only for transporting it..
