Canon s820 - Ink Refill Problem

L

Lex

I figured I'd try to save some money and try to refill my own inks in
my Canon s820d. I have see good things about the kit from
atlascopy.com so I bought a kit. I refilled the Photo Cyan and now my
color is way off with a blue-ish tint.

The test pattern seems to print OK (note this is not a photo print):

Here is the original photo:

Here is what the photo looks like printed with the ink refill:

In all fairness to AtlasCopy, I reported this problem and they said
they were going to ask their chemist and get back to me. However, in
the mean time, I'm wondering if anyone knows what might be causing
this problem.

I've had this happen many times with refilled cartridges using our own
JetTec refill kits and bulk ink. The colour balance can however be adjusted
by tinkering with the amount of cyan prior to printing. Many other users
also reported this particularly when printing B/W photos. I think it was
decided it is one of the features of this printer as no one succeeded in
totally removing the blue cast. And that just the same with Canon's ink.

The manufacturer of AtlasCopy.com inks is known to us, as
we use to use them years ago. Unfortunately the PC and Cyan inks
have degraded, which means they poorly mixed the batches again
(which is why we stopped using them). The degradation is caused
by too high of a pH in the inks which causes the PC and C to color-shift
and pick up a purple tone.

There is no real fix for the problem except to find someone
else to buy your ink from.

Thank you for the info. This was very helpful. Barry at AtlasCopy
said that I probably got the Photo Cyan from a bad batch. They have
since changed suppliers and he is sending me some new ink and a free
catridge to replace the messed up ink.

I'll let y'all know how it turns out when I have a chance to test the
new ink.

Regards.
