I think someone may have pushed too hard when inserting a new red ink cartridge. Anyway, we now have broad white lines on the printed out sheets, whether they are photocopies or printouts from the computer. This seems to happen especially when printing iin black - the blue coloured test sheets we print out seem okay.
None of the cartridges is marked as low in ink...
We have done all the "clean" and "align" options.
Any ideas gratefully received.

According to the Service Manual it can be rectified by doing one of these, however several of them of them are things that will have to be done by a repairer:

- Remove and re-install the print head.

- Confirm that the ink tanks are installed properly.

- Perform print head maintenance.

- Replace the

- ink tank, or

- print head
*1.

- Perform the following:

- Automatic or manual print head alignment in the user mode

- LF / Eject correction in the service mode

- Clean the paper feed rollers.

- Replace the

- purge unit, or

- logic board.

Is it still under warranty? - if so contact Canon and they will send out an engineer.

Most of the time if a print maintenance doesn't cure it, then it will be the print head that needs replacing.
