Canon i560 printing stripes on photos

J

Jane

My photos are printing with horizontal stripes throughout the entire
print. The color of the stripes varies depending on the color on that
part of the page. Text prints fine.

I've tried cleaning several times. I tried deep cleaning several
times. I aligned the heads. I changed the ink cartridges. So far
nothing. When I get the printout for head alignment the magenta boxes
look like combs instead of filled in rectangles.

Anything else I can try before dumping the printer?

Another question: when doing a 'deep cleaning', or any cleaning,
should something print out afterwards? Seems to me that neither
cleaning takes as long as I'd expect and nothing prints when it's
done.

thanks

Check the photo paper you are using, photos need paper and ink that are
compatible with each other. I suggest you try a Canon photo paper and see if
that makes a difference.
If the printer prints as you would expect on plain paper then your issue is
almost certainly the paper and not the printer. No test page is printed after a
clean but you can print the test page by holding down the Resume button until
the LED flashes twice.

Manual cleaning of the print head, or replacement of the print head is
an option. Manual cleaning has been covered here many times, it
typically involves soaking the base of the head in either 70% isopropyl
alcohol, windex, or distilled water, or some combination of those.
Repeat until the solution doesn't get muddied anymore, and let dry. If
you need a more detailed explanation, it's easy to find. It doesn't
always work, and if it doesn't, it's time to replace the head or the
printer.

A replacement head costs about $50-$100 (I just ordered one myself off
Ebay for the same reason). It's well worth it considering that this
printer is relatively cheap to run. Even using only OEM cartridges, the
3/6 series cartridges are $1 to $2 cheaper than the newer chipped 5/8
series cartridges used in Canon's current printers. If you use generics
or refill ink, you'll recoup that cost even quicker.

best info for cleaning canon printheads is on the Nifty-stuff forum. Sign
in and go to the first FAQ about why the printer isn't printing properly.
Lots of posts to sift through, but there is good info for you there. Also,
best prices for printheads that I've found is Inkcessories.com. They also
sell some of the printheads on ebay at a somewhat lower price. These are
factory sealed new canon printheads and are much cheaper than buying
directly from Canon.

Based upon your description, it sounds like some head clogs. If you
email me I will send you a list of cleaning suggestions I have put
together for Canon inkjet printers. It isn't comprehensive, and much of
it has been gleaned from other sources, but most people have found it
helpful in resolving these kinds of problems.

If you wish a copy, email me at the address below. Please mention it is
for a Canon printer.
