canon i470d install problems

I have been trying to install a canon i470D printer on my
sony vaio notebook running windows XP. It gets stuck
during installation trying to find the port the printer is
connected to (it connects via usb). I've tried to
manually pick a port, but a USB port doesn't show up, just
lpt and com ports. The printer shows up in device manager
as a "USB device" with a yellow exclamation next to it. I
have tried just about everything i can think of and have
the latest BIOS version from sony. (Also I am having a
very similar problem trying to connect a scanner w/usb
that used to work fine on this computer). Any ideas on
what could be going wrong here?

Thank you,
Katie

Do a total unininstall of any software that may already have been installed
for the printer....

See:

http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article One.htm

Then go into the Device Manager and highlight the USB entry with the yellow
exclamation point by it... it's not telling you that there is a problem with
the printer, but with the USB controller itself.

Right click on it and select Uninstall. Reboot the PC and XP should find
and re-install the correct drivers for the controller.

Thanks for replying. I did exactly what you've said
(Canon had me do the same thing before too), but the
driver install program still, no matter what, can't find
the port the printer is connected to, and it still shows
up in device manager w/ the yellow exclamation.
Any other advice??

Thanks,
Katie
