cannot view copied photos?

i have copied photos to a CD using XP wizard, and they seem to be
copied successfully (i eject and reinsert the disk and the folder are
there with images inside). Here's the problem.....I sent a CD to a
friend who cannot "bring them up" on her computer. She even went to
Kino's in hopes that they could find them (they couldn't...) What am I
doing wrong?
Thank for any help

first of all,
make sure you are selecting the pictures, not shortcuts to them.
I like to use "select all" from the edit menu.

then copy with ctrl - c

then open the cd rom drive and use ctrl - v to paste.

then burn.

then verify the cd by opening a few files ON THE CD.

ok. still these days there are differerences in cd rw's and
the programs that control them. If you used windows
as in the example above, then your files were burned
at the fastest possible speed your drive goes. a Slow CD drive
will not read a cd that was burned faster than it can read.

Nero is a program that allows you control the burn speed
if that is your problem. you can set it to burn at 4x or 10x
so that people with slower CD readers can read what you wrote.

hope this helps.

Thank you, James, you were very helpful. I had no idea that the speed
at which my PC writes files can affect a slower PC's ability to read
them....I found that if I click on my E drive "Properties" and go to
the "Recording" tab I can slow the rate my PC writes. I"ve since
changed it from "fastest" to 4X. Is this as effective? Do I need to
actually buy a CD with a slower speed on it? Mine are 24X.

I'm 99% sure i was copying jpeg images. I clicked on the files
"properties" and the File Type was JPEG image.

Someone on another board told me to download slideshow.exe. When XP
Wizard prompts, I should select the Slideshow option and this will
allow non XP computers to see photos. What stumps me about this is
that Kinko's is supposed to have XP and still couldn't see the
photos...
I'll try your method of copying and let you know how it goes.
Thanks again for all your help.
