What do I need to do or download to access photos copied from an iMAC?

My daughter copied a number of wedding photos for me from her iMAC to
an 8gb USB Drive. She copied them from a DVD to her iMAC and they are
standard .jpg files. I tried to copy them from the USB to my laptop (Win XP
Pro SP3). It sees the USB drive but not the photos. I get some strange
errors: Access Denied; File being used by another program; etc. I tried
re-booting to get the generic USB driver, but no luck reading the photos.
