Cannot use unallocated space

The server has 6 hard drives on a RAID Array, configured as a RAID 5. The
operating system is Windows 2000, with SP4. In Disk Management there is Disk
0. Disk 0 consists of volumes C:, F:, G: set as Primary partitions. Volume E:
is set as a logical drive and extended partition. All the volumes Layout is
Partition, the Type is Basic, the File system is NTFS. There is 17.5GB of
unallocated space. I want to either extend the F: volume or create a new one.
But when I click on the unallocated space the only option available is
properties. Disk Mgr will not allow me to click on an existing partition and
the unallocated space to link together so I can extend it. It is either one
or the other. When I right click on the F: volume, the only options available
are Mark partition as Active or change drive letter or format or delete
partition. Can someone explain why I can't do what it is I want to do and how
can I fix it. I really need to get this corrected soon. In the next few
months, I will be adding 8 more hard drives to the remaining empty slots in
the RAID.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thank you.
Happy Holidays.

When using basic disks, you are limited to creating four primary partitions
per disk, or three primary partitions and one extended partition with
unlimited logical drives.

Since I am limited with a Basic disk, I've looked up information on Dynamic
disk. But there are a couple of questions I have. First, is I read somewhere
that there cannot be any logical drives or extended partitions when
converting the dynamic disk. Do you know if that is true. Second, I am going
to be adding more hard drives. Should I wait until I've installed the hard
drives before converting the basic disk and the unallocated space to dynamic.

These articles may help you. Extended partitions would be converted to
simple volumes.
