cannot use laptop keyboard after removing wireless logitech keyboa

I purchased a wireless Logitech keyboard that I use with my IBM T42p laptop
using Microsoft XP.
However when I want to type a word document using my laptop keyboard I get
garbage. Example: "How do you do" comes out as "H6w d6 y64 d6".
Question: How do I reset my keyboard when I am not using the wireless
keyboard?

Press "numlock"

And on most laptops you have to press the Fn key while pressing the key that
says NumLk on it. Simply pressing the key without the Fn will do what ever
else is listed on the key. My laptop will toggle Insert.
