Cannot update from windows update page

When I go to windows update page, it advises me I have
some programs that I need to update.

When I select and say install, I get a window that tells
me how I am progressing, but the blue progress line never
appears.

Running Xp Pro and ie6

TRY: 1) add http:*.microsoft.com to "trusted sites" in the Security Tab of Internet Option
2) in custom settings of same option tab, click Custom Level and assure all the ActiveX choices (download and Run) are set to "enable" or "prompt". Set all to enable at first and see if update works. Then chage some to prompt as you see fit
