Cannot update any device drivers

I cannot get update any device drivers in Windows XP
Professinal. The hardware Wizard always returns with

"The wizard could not find a better match for your
hardware than
the software you currently have installed"

Is there a service or file that controls the
determination of which driver is newer?

First try the manufacturers' websites for your various devices, and be
sure the drivers are designated for XP.

Windowsupdate sometimes will show drivers updates for your system,
although I haven't always been pleased with what they have. A very
good source for drivers is http://www.driverguide.com. Their universal
login is drivers, password all.
