cannot type in the xp logon field

When I log off for the day and click on my user account to log back in the
next morning, the box for the password will appear. The problem is that I
cannot get a cursor in the box either by tab or by clicking in the field
itself, therefore I cannot log in. I have to log in to a guest account that
has no password and log off again a few times to get it to work.

This does not happen everytime I log out, it is random. Anyone have any
ideas about this? I have tried searching and cannot find a solution, though I
may not be explaining the situation properly.

The next time this happens hit the Ctrl + Alt + Del keys twice
at the Welcome Screen. This should bring up the Log on to
Windows dialog. You can now enter your user name and password
to log on.

As for your problem, this fix has worked for me in the past.

Go to Start -> Run and enter the following command in the Open
box.

regsvr32 shgina.dll

Click OK.
Log off and see if you can now enter your password.

Good luck
