What is ANONYMOUS LOGON?

Can anybody explain what is NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON??

It appears on the security event property page as a value of user
field.......

I understand it is some kind of a buit-in user account name. But what
privileges does this user account have....??

I read somewhere that XP Pro forces anonymous users to use guest accounts. I
have disabled the guest account (it didn't have a password) but the event
logger is still showing successful ANONYMOUS LOGONs. Although the next event
log (the one following the successful log in) shows the remote user (with
ANONYMOUS LOGON) immediately logging off.
Can anyone explain the successful these log-ins...??

thanx.....

PS. I have Win XP Pro on my machine and I'm not connected to any
domain........ my LAN is divided into various workgroups.

It normally represents access to your machine without
any username/password being used.
Turn on your firewall to prevent all such access.
By default this type of access has very minimal access,
but was left available due to back-compatibility issues
with other, older software (like Win9x)
