Cannot turn off mouse "snap to" in Windows XP

Hello, I cannot turn off the Windows XP "snap to" mouse function. Yes, I have
tried going to the mouse control panel and turning it off. I have also tried
the registry setting to turn it off. I have seen some people on the internet
having this same problem, but I cannot find a solution. It seems to happen
after I did a Windows Update to a Kensington Mouse driver (from microsoft).
Even if I uninstall this driver it still continues to happen. I have this
same issue on two PCs (on laptop and one desktp). Someone must know how to
turn this off. Thanks, Apco25

Perhaps the Kensington's MouseWorks® Software is enabling the "snap-to" function. You may check with their support team for answers.

Thanks for the reply. However, as I have stated above I used the Microsoft
driver from the update. This driver was provided when you update windows
XP
via "Microsoft Update". I did not use the Kensington driver from thier
website.

Besides, I have removed this driver and it still happens. Since Microsoft
provides this driver by detecting this mouse, it seems I should be asking
Microsoft not Kensington.

This doesn't solve your issue but, as a general rule, never get hardware
driver updates from the windows update site. Only do so if it's a microsoft
manufactured hardware product. All the drivers on the MS site, unless it's
a MS manufactured device, are provided by the device manufacturer. Often
times the driver on the MS site is outdated. It doesn't get updated unless
the device manufacturer submits one to MS for testing, which costs the
manufacturer, so they often times don't do it with all their updates.

I suggest you do contact Kensington Tech support.

I just ran into this problem myself, and thanks to this post I fixed it. You
need to download the kensington mouse program here:
http://ftp.kensington.com/PC/Input/MouseWorks_PC_622.exe

After you install it and stuff, their program replaces the windows mouse
options thing, but the "snap-to" option actually works now. In addition, you
can change scroll speeds globally; another problem I had.
