Hi,
I came back to my computer from being away from it for
about 45 minutes, upon my return, there was an error
message that said "this program has performed an illegal
operation.....etc"
Upon trying to shut down the computer, it locked up and I
had to do a hard boot, turn power off. AOL was running in
the back ground during this whole process.
NOW, when i turn on the computer, it goes to the screen
where you have to decide which mode to start the system
in, Safe mode, safe mode with network support, normal
mode, safe mode with command prompt...etc. If i select
ANY option, the computer will act as if it going to start
then in about 10-15 seconds, it is right back at the same
screen.
Thats my problem, any ideas would be helpful.
So far I have created a boot disk and it still wont get
past that screen.
.
Hello!
If you have original bootable XP CD,you enter the BIOS and
change 1st boot preference to CD-Rom; restart computer boot
with the Windows XP CD (or with the optional 6 floppy disk
set in that case 1st boot preference will be floppy drive)
carry run Windows XP CD and at the Setup Screen press the
Enter Key,You will be taken to the Windows XP Licensing
Agreement. After reading the agreement press F8 to
proceed. The next screen gives you the option to do a fresh
(clean) install or to "Repair the selected Windows XP
installation, Press R
choose "R"

Unfortunately, according to HP, the system restore files
(bootable XP CD) are in a folder on the hard drive, no
restore disk came with this computer, will downloading
the 6 disk set from microsoft give me the same options?
