Cannot standby

Sid

I have a new computer, which worked OK at first. After a
couple of hours use, the standby button 'greyed' over and
would not work, and the shut down button only worked the
same as restart. I did not change any settings, there are
none in the power system for me to change, apart from the
shut down button settings, and they make no difference
whatever it is set at.
I have windows XP Home edition, The restore system would
not work for me, because there was basically nothing to
restore to at that time.
I am told that there should be 'hibernation' and 'stand
by' settings in the power system, I have a blank space.

If Hibernation is enabled, then you press the shift key at the shutdown
screen and the standby button changes from Standby to Hibernate.

Since this is a new system and we have no way of knowing what is going on
with your setup, you should contact your PC's tech support for help with
this issue. Beyond that, all I can suggest, since you haven't changed any
settings is to check whatever you have installed, connected, added, etc. as
any such item might be the culprit, if you've done nothing, then I can only
suggest your computer's tech support.
