cannot set background color of browser after installing patches

Hello! I am running Windows XP Home Edition that came
with each of my 3 computers (all different makes) and
after the latest Sasser worm scare, installed all the
latest patches from the Microsoft website. Since then,
however, the background of my IE6 browser has gone back
to the default "white" color, which is very harsh on the
eyes when viewing under dim light conditions.

Previously, I had gone to the toolbar "Tools/internet
options/color" and unchecked the "Use Windows Colors" to
choose another background color. However, even though
that box is still unchecked, and the chosen background
color is not white, I still get a white background. This
is true for all my computers. Can anyone tell me how to
fix this? Thanks!
Barry

See if this fix will work with XP.

Background Colors or Images Are Not Visible on Web Pages in Internet
Explorer
When you attempt to view a Web page that has a background color or
background image, the background is not displayed and a white background is
displayed instead.

Hi Henri:

Thanks for the reply. I tried to do exactly that, which
is what I outlined in my initial message. It used to
work before I applied the patches, but now it doesn't.
Do you or anyone else have any suggestions??? I have
seen it happen now on other computers also.

Tools/Internet Options/Colors ( in the bottom)
"Use Window colors"?
Is it set?
I have windows 98 so not sure if this will be at the same place.
