IE6 lost all background colors

Gil Theissen

Uninstalled Acrobat reader 6.0, rebooted and opened IE6. For some reason IE
no longer displays any background colors. Everything is white. Pictures,
links, images and text all display properly, but the background color for
every webpage is always white.
Running XP pro and went back to my last restore point before the
uninstall without success. Acrobat Reader 6.0 was reinstalled but no change
with the background color problem. Any ideas?

Thanks - Gil Theissen

Addendum -- checking and unchecking "use windows colors" in Internet Options
has no effect. Under the Colors button, I can change the font color, the
links colors and the hover color, but no matter which color I select for
'background' it stays white.

Try going to control panel..Accessibility Options..Display tab and
make sure use high contrast is not checked.

I've had exactly the same problem, but no solution so far. No backgournd
colors. In my case, the problem is worse: graphics appear fine, but many
buttons don't appear at all--just the text on the button as a link! Also,
text is larger than it should be, given my settings. Some sites...like the
microsoft support site--are worse than others. Text on the MS support site
appears 10 or 20 times it's normal size (the M takes up two or three screens,
for example)>

I have displayed the same pages in Netscape 7.1 and they look fine, so it's
definitely the browser.

I spend ninety minutes with Dell tech support on Friday discussing this
problem. They couldn't help.

I downloaded IE 6.0 service pack 1 today and installed it. No change.

Can someone help???

It does sound like I have a mini-case of what you have. My text is also a
bit larger, but not as bad as you have. I also tried checking and unchecking
"ignore colors specified on web pages" under the Accessibility button in
Internet Options without success.
Did any event precede your problem? In my case, I had IE open while
uninstalling Acrobat reader 6.0. Halfway through the routine, it told me I
had to close my browser and retry, which I did and immediately thereafter, I
noticed the problem

I found a solution for my problem. Control Panel > Accessibility
Options > Display tab > uncheck "Use high contrast" > Apply.
Somehow, during my attempted uninstallation of Acrobat, this option got
enabled. Don't know how, but it did. I hope this works for you as well
Good luck - Gil Theissen

Ricky;
As I coincidentally discovered myself, this was exactly what the problem
was. I don't know how it happened but if I hadn't luckily found it myself,
your post would've been my lifesaver. Thanks very much for your help.

This WORKED!! Thank you, Gil and Ricky. For your
information, the only thing I had done prior to getting
this problem was to select Windows Classic for my Display
Settings instead of Windows XP.
