Change background color

Hi,
Looking at the color white hurts my eyes and I am wondering if there is
a way to make the browser change the color white to gray, anywhere it
occurs on any page I may visit. I do not want the accesibility option
of IE because that ignored images that are used as background. I just
want something that will cause the browser to render the color white as
gray. For example, in Adobe Acrobat you can set it to replace a color x
with a color y.
Does anyone know how this can be done while surfing the internet?
Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem with all that white background, just as you do -
especially in Outlook Express, but not so much on the net. I have my
default background color set to a light blue. Try this to fix your problem
as I did.

Right click an empty area on your desktop, then choose Properties.
Click the Appearance tab, then the Advanced button.
In the Item drop-down menu, select "Window"
Then click the "Color 1" button and choose the background color you want.
Click Okay then click Apply.

This will change the background color for all your windows, except in IE
where the web site specifies a background color. To fix this, in IE go to
Tools...Internet Options...General tab, Accessibility button, check "Ignore
colors specified on web pages", click Okay, click Okay.

I know you said you didn't want to use the Accessibility option. In that
case, on the General tab, click the Colors button, uncheck the "Use Windows
colors" box and then select your background color from there. Won't get
sites that specify a color, but will cut down on your problem a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion however, most web sites specify a specific
back color and it is always white. I need to find a way to render white
in some other color. Adobe Acrobat has a capability to replace a color
with another and I am looking for something like this while surfing the
net. Using accessibility ignores images etc and pages do not look
correct.

Sorry my suggestions don't fit the bill. I can sympathize on why you want
to change the background color of white on most web sites. I can't find an
tool that will do what you want.

There are "bookmarklets" that will do what you want, just not in IE:

The only thing I can think of would be to find a custom CSS file that would
only change the background color - and I haven't so far (and I've spent a
long time looking). IIRC, Firefox or Opera come with custom .css files for
such things. Maybe someone here knows enough CSS coding to do this for you,
or you could post to a CSS forum on the net, or someone else here could at
least point you in the right direction.
