Have contacted internet provider and was told that the Windows Mail program
was corrupted, and that I should reinstall the software. How do I do this?

Very difficult to do without reinstalling the rest of Vista at the same
time.

Note - before you try this, you might want to remove your email account
under Windows Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account
again. This doesn't replace as much, but it sometimes helps.

Delete and recreate that mail account, as Robert already suggested.
If that does not fix the problem, upgrade to Windows Live Mail:

Thanks for the replies. XP was originallly installed on computer and then upgraded to Vista Home Premium. I have the the two discs and do not know to proceed. I have already deleted and then recreated the mail account. Sure hate to think of reinstalling the whole system.

I have to jump in here. I just went thru this scenario, originally
couldn't send e-mail, and what a joke. I had a thread on here and people
told me it was my anti virus causing the problem. Was told to uninstall
it. I did. Still had trouble and people suggested it was my spy ware.
Was told to uninstall it. I did. Still couldn't send e-mail but could
receive. I could still get on internet. They suggested installing
Windows Live Mail. I did. What a mistake. After that I couldn't get on
internet, couldn't receive e-mail and couldn't send e-mail. Ended up
taking into my service provider and they said Windows Live Mail was the
problem. They installed another e-mail program, so far all is well. I
would like to go back to Microsoft's e-mail but am scarred. Will it ever
be safe to reinstall Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail? Thanks

Windows Mail is very hard to uninstall without also uninstalling the rest
of Vista, so it's likely that it is just hidden.

Thats true. I still have it on my computer but I have a new mail program
as my default. I am waiting for someone or Microsoft to tell me when to
download a new update to fix all the problems.

For Windows Mail, there haven't been any new updates for about 17
months, and it isn't because none were needed. Microsoft is now
putting most of their email effort toward the newer email/newsreader
program, Windows Live Mail.

For Windows Live Mail, you're more likely to find out any new versions
or any new hotfixes for it in newsgroup:

microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

What you experienced is not the norm.
I've talked quite a few people into trying the upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, and for the overwhelming majority it
is a very smooth transition.

In control panel, programs and features gives you the option to remove
Windows Live Mail, won't that work? Thanks

As I have stated I have had trouble with Windows Live Mail. Started
using another e-mail program and is working fine. I would go back to
Windows Live Mail if they got the bugs worked out. But for now I am
going to stick with the new program. Somebody had mentioned in this
thread that you couldn't uninstall Windows Live Mail without practicably
uninstalling Vista. My question was, even if you use the remove button
in Programs and Features program you can't remove Windows Live Mail
without hurting Windows Vista's program? Thanks

It doesn't hurt anything to uninstall Windows Live Mail.

The one you can't remove is Windows Mail.

Let me ask you this.I was running Windows Mail. I was told on here when
I started have trouble, it would be a good ideal to install Windows Live
Mail, so I did. In my past messages you can see that is when I started
have a lot worse problem. I am THINKING now that after installing
Windows Live Mail I went into Programs and Features and uninstalled
Windows Mail. Could I have possibly done this or would there not have
been an option to uninstall Windows Mail after installing Windows Live
Mail? Thanks

I've never seen an option to remove Windows Mail. About the closest
you can come is to remove all accounts under it, to keep it from doing
much if you start it, and deleting all the shortcuts that make it easy to
start.

Your right. I remember, now I was told to remove all accounts and shut
down Windows Mail and restart and add back new accounts. Thats what I
did. That didn't help either. So I then updated to Windows Live Mail and
everything went haywire. I couldn't download, upload e-mail, and
couldn't even connect to the internet. Well I will keep using this new
e-mail program for now. I have also removed Micro Trend and Webroot Spy
Sweeper and installed a new free anti virus and everything is running
fine for now. I sure would like to go back to Windows Live Mail. I am
now wondering about upgrading my Microsoft Windows Photo Gallery to Live?
