I just upgraded my antivirus program to AVG 8.0. Prior to doing this task,
my mail worked just fine. Before I downloaded the program I was instructed
to do the 32 bit patch so my system would not slow down. Ha Ha !!! Now
slow is the operating word. I can only receive email that comes in very
slowly when it feels like it. I get the same message everyone else is
complaining about for sending. Icannot find any help anywhere. If someone
has some great suggestion, please post asap. Otherwise, this computer is
going back to Toshiba tomorrow with a huge sad face and many complaints
about Vista. I sooooooooooooo wish I would have bought a MAC!

Did you use the standard install for AVG? If so, uninstall it, then do a
custom
install where you tell it to leave out the part that scans email.

Also do you have either the Google Toolbar program or the SMS desktop
program installed? If so, uninstall them. Using a web site that lets you
do a
Google search isn't a problem.

Did you used to have either the Norton or the McAfee antivirus program on
that computer, even a trial version? If so, did you first uninstall it,
then run
their cleanup program to take care of what the uninstall often fails to
remove?

Click on the Outbox, then each message you find there. If any of them
display
an error message instead of a message you tried to send, move them to the
Drafts folder or delete them. If they refuse to do either, download and
install
this hotfix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version of
Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version first.
The Vista SP1 update includes this hotfix and more, but takes longer
to install.

If Windows Mail still runs slowly, see here:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/72674-windows-mail-slow.html

Also, how much RAM memory does your machine have? Many cheap
new machines come with small amounts, such as 512 MB, but many
Vista programs run better if they have more, such as 2 GB.
