cannot send mail

I am using outlook 2000, I can receive e-mails, but cannot send them. The
e-mails just stay in the outbox. When I click 'send/receive' the dialogue box
just says 'receiving mail on account<'my in account'> executing. It used to
also say sending mail etc. Its as if outlook hasn't spotted my e-mail in the
outbox.

Thanks Andreas but this did not help.

The plot thickens - I have a laptop (Windows 2000/Office 2000) and a desktop
(WindowsXP/Office 2000). The outlooks keep synchronised and I save the .pst
file from the laptop and export to the desktop periodically. Foolishly I
decided to update the Windows XP on the desktop and the Office 2000 on both
PC's at the same time, but when this was completed I could no longer send
e-mails from either PC. They stay in the Outbox (Outlook reminds me the
messages are still in the outbox when I close Outlook and the'Work offline'
is not checked) ). However Outlook Express still works but exporting the mail
account settings to Outlook does not help (unless I'm not doing this properly)

Any ideas?

PS Several (35) of the Windows XP updates did not install all with error
code: 0x80200010 but I can't find this error code listed anywhere
