I apologize I should have sent a bit of background. This is my 80 y/o mothers
newer problem..She's been geek squad 3x's she's coonfused, (she's confused
them) I think its not to serious..she lives away from me otherwise i would
take it myself..so thank you in advance for all your help.

1. She had dial up.. began experiencing sending probs..ISP told her its not
them.
Took to Geek squad, in WI

2. same prob.. now she is here in FL. Cumputer running nicely on my DSL (
of course) except for these error messages.. This one was first or something
like it.

The host 'smtp' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Account: 'POP3', Server: 'SMTP', Protocol: POP3, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Then I think my mom (not touching the computer anymore) deleted the smtp
server and I tried to recreate the POP3 server thing and now i am getting
both the above and the below.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'test', Account: 'mail.core.com', Server:
'smtp.core.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800CCC0F

Thank you soo much for any help you can give..

Sarah,

if she has moved to another ISP (Yours?) then most likely the SMTP
server name will have to be changed to the same as yours. Usually an ISP
will only let you send through their server if you are connected to
their network. This is because SMTP does not identify you, the only
thing that does is your connection to their network, and so if they did
not apply this rule anybody could use their server to send spam.

The POP part is the receiving / storing server so in your case this
would be most likely your ISP's server and likely the same as yours. If
your Mom previously had an email address from someone else then you need
to look that up on their website, so for example is she is
(e-mail address removed) then comcast would be the place to get the POP settings
from. If she is closing her account there though they may not maintain
her old address for long. POP does identify you (Username and password)
so you do not have to be connected to their network to use their server,
but of course they don't provide free email boxes usually if the account
expires.

Hope this helps, a bit if you want more specific help post back saying
who her old email was provided by and who your DSL is provided by so
someone can help look this stuff up. Do NOT put a real email address in
newsgroups like this one, it will get abused.

An unknown error has occurred. Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 76.96.30.117
(76.96.30.117:25), connect error 10060', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67

Here is my error message very close to yours. I can receive email but I
cannot send when I do I get the above error message. Now if I got to
Smartzone through comcast.net I can send emails. Any luck yet?

Well core.com don't seem to say what there POP server is called but I
suggest for her account you try POP3.CORE.COM and try SMTP.VERIZON.NET
for outgoing. I was able to "Ping" both of these so the machines are out
there somewhere. of course you can check the SMTP against you own mail
settings.

Although Core gives the server names as mail.core.com (incoming)
and smtp.core.com (outgoing), I wasn't able to get smtp.core.com to
respond properly in a port 25 telnet session. They may be refusing
connections outside of their service area.
Go with Charlie's suggestion, use smtp.verizon.net.

My Verizon SMTP server is called "outgoing.verizon.net" and is on port 587.
This is working in my Verizon account setup. Give it a try.

on trying I found solution... it worked for me...

http://www.comcast.com/Customers/FAQ/FaqDetails.ashx?Id=2288

....in #13 select Log on using
- write your user name and your password
- select Remember password
- Click OK

....maybe is stupid but worked for me, try it!
Everything else is same with instruction
