Cannot send e-mail

A

AliCat

I cannot send e-mail through Vista. I can recieve it though. This is the
message I get:
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject '',
Account: 'pop3.mail.wowway.com', Server: 'smtp.mail.wowway.com', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.0.0 Access denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

My e-mail is through WOWWAY (this account is still active) and the internet
I am connected to is VERIZON.
Do I need to switch my e-mail to verizon? Shouldn't I be able to send and
recieve through any connection?

Try using AllisonJo710 as your user name rather than
(e-mail address removed). See if that works.

G

Gary VanderMolen

As an anti-spamming measure, many port 25 SMTP servers will not
accept off-network connections.
While you are connected to Verizon you should use their SMTP server.
You can receive through any connection.

It is set to AllisonJo710 as my user name

When I change it, it will not allow me to recieve or send any e-mail

First of all, you should not have changed anything that affects
receiving via pop3.mail.wowway.com.

You might not have the correct setting for Verizon's SMTP server.
Post the latest error message you get when sending.

Do you get an error message when you try to send? If so,
right-click on it, copy, then paste it into a reply here.

You may wanrt to check your mail setting in Accounts tab under tools. Check
your ISP settings under Properties. You may have the correct settings for
send but not receive.

Huck

I don't see anything that says ISP. Where should I be looking?
Thanks,

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Check the box for "My server requires authentication." Then
click on the adjacent Settings button, select "Log on using"
and enter your Verizon credentials. That should do it.

The part you want is labelled outgoing server. You can keep your
incoming server as it is.
