cannot send attachments; too slow

I cannot send attachments, no matter how small they are. The connection
simply terminates after a while of trying to send. I have tried uninstalling
my anti-virus software and zipping the files I'm trying to send. Even if I
try to send a small Word document, it times out. What can I do?
 
Which antivirus is it? Some of them need more than just uninstalling.
Also, since that account may have been corrupted by the antivirus, delete
that account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.
