Cannot Search from IE6 Address Bar anymore

Hello,
I need some assistance with the following problem. A user
here at work accidentally downloaded one of those browser
hijackers on the PC.

I used AD-AWARE to find the entries and scrap them, but
during the removal something (the hijacker most likely)
crashed the system.

After rebooting, everything appears normal, except that
now, if you type something other than a complete URL, the
address bar will not search.

For example: if you type google and press enter, you get
this:
http:///? google

and a "Page Cannot be Displayed" error.

I have repaired, re-installed, IE and changed its settings
to no avail.

How do I fix this? --without re-imaging the machine?
