Cannot Save picture in jpg format

I am using Windows ME (ver 4.90.3000) with Internet
Explorer ver (6.0.2800.1106).
when i am right clicking to save any pictures for any
site, it is saving the file without any extension.
eg. 1.jpg is getting saved as only 1. the file type shown
in explorer as 'File' again the file has to be remaned as
1.jpg to see the content.

Please suggest

Check your file type association for .jpg

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.
