...cannot save mht file with IE...

Hi,
I don't have a great deal of faith in this answer, but:
198061 - Cannot Save Web Page as a Web Archive File
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;198061
Is Outlook Express working properly? Is OE the default e-mail program in IE>
Internet Options> Programs? Are IE and OE both the same version?

See: http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/faqs/why.htm#reregOE
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/oemissing.htm

You might try re-registering inetcomm.dll
Start> Run> Type in (or copy and paste)

regsvr32 inetcomm.dll

Press: Enter

Might explain why this is happening:
235589 - Error Message This Web Page Could Not Be Saved
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=235589

A repair of IE may help:

Windows- not

317228 - Error Message Occurs When You Try to Install a Windows Update

Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q318378

Hope this helps,

Do you have all the latest updates for IE/OE 6 installed? There was a
period of time, ~Nov03-Feb04 when an update incapacitated this facitlity,
only in regards to .mht. The security update for OE sometime early
spring-late winter--I think that it was in February, but don't remember for
sure, fixed it, mostly. I still occasionally have problems with it working,
properly, though now it doesn't give the 'Unable to save web page to
selected location...' message that it did earlier, but now just seems to
hang-- need to use Task Manager (W98se) and then go on. May be connected
with the server redirection that an MS tech wrote about, a security matter.
Also, I find that the newer version will not make an .mht file from a saved
complete web page anymore, but I suspect that this is the code change
referred to by the tech.

Hope this helps,
Joe
