Cannot Run Program in XP

I am trying to install a program in windows xp. when i
tried to run the program, it indicates an error message. I
have successfully installed the same program in Windows 98
operating system and it works just fine. The program by
the way, is saved in a Windows NT server.
 
Not all programs that ran ok in Win 98 will run in XP.. you could try
running the program in 'compatability mode'..
 
Already tried it, but to no avail. i'm suspecting it has
something to do with the exe file being saved in an NT
server, using a mapped drive z:\ ... but i just don't have
any idea how to go on about this...
