The Windows NT Backup Program 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2111) stopped
working. I am unable to find anything re problems and it says that this
program is part of the Windows operating system.
Any advice?

"stopped working" isn't a very definitive description...
Post any error message that either ntbackup or the event files describe.
Sometimes malware causes normal programs to quit, hence you should describe
what your malware detection scheme is.
Yes, ntbackup is a program furnished by MS for Windows XP.

Usual problem is with a corrupt Removeable Media database rather than with
the program itself.

XP ntbackup is dreadfully unreliable (so is the version on Server 2003 and
SBS) I would suggest looking at an alternative, preferably one which doesn't
use that broken Media Pooling feature of Windows. Cobian Backup is good for
disk-disk backups.
