Cannot retrieve backup files

I recently did a complete backup using vista backup and restore then I
reinstalled vista premium but when I go to backup and restore it says cannot
access the disk. I used my g: drive which is a internal hd. It sees the
backup folder but I cannot access it. What's up ? I tried several approaches
old backup and advanced but same results. I can see the compressed backup
files and I can uncompress them manually but not realible way to recover
since it split up over many files....HELP !!!!!
 
Have you tried moving the folder with backup files to the drive on which
Vista is installed, then try the restoration?
 
If you reinstalled then userid from the last install may control the file.
