cannot restart after crashing during defrag

hi, i cannot restart after crashing during defrag. when
running the recovery console amessage appears "the volume
appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems"
any ideas how to resolve this?

Having a full backup before running defrag is recommended. However, I
suspect few people backup their system before using the defragment
utility.

Did you try running chkdsk /r from the recovery console? If that
doesn't work, your data might be so badly mangled that you'll have to
reinstall XP.
