HP repaired my desktop and sent it back with a re-installed Windows.

The named the owner of the pc HP.
I changed this to my own name, say XXX.
I made a user's account for XXX.

In Windows Explorer my user XXX does not show up. User HP does, and it
has all my documents. I don't want the path to all my stuff to go like
"C:\Users\HP\Documents" , I want it to be "C:\Users\XXX\Documents".

When I go to user account through Control Panel > User accounts the
user HP is *not* shown, user XXX *is shown*. User HP is not visible
either if I go to "manage other accounts" .

Can someone help me to oust HP and put user XXX in charge of my
documents?

Thanks.

Hi,

Logoff the current account and log into user XXX account. If there is no
option to, then what you did was rename the HP account to XXX. This will not
change the user folder name (ie: Users\HP), but rather only the friendly
name. To have Users\XXX, you must create a new account with that name and
then log into it to create the user folder structures. The folders are not
created until the logon event occurs.

Thank you.

I am logged in as XXX. I cannot even log in as "HP".

That is what I must have done. I suppose I could not log on as HP because I
changed the name.

Never mind, all my programs seem to be there.

But How do I get my documents etc. back?

Thank you very much.

I figured it out, I think. You need to copy your docs to another disk
accessible both by HP and XXX. And then import them.

Thanks! It is a small thing, but I am happy to have HP gone from my path.

Hi,

Copy them from the HP account (you may need to alter permissions to do
this).
