CANNOT REOPEN WORD 2000 PROGRAM

After shutting down my computer this morning in the usual
manner after using Word 2000 to write some papers, I
restarted my computer this afternoon could not re-open the
Word program. When I double click the Word icon on the
Office Shortcut Bar to open Word 2000, the logo appears in
the blue and white rectangle, however, instead of showing
my name as being the registered user, the word "default"
appears as registered user. Then the entire computer
freezes with the Word logo rectangle on the screen. I am
even unable to use START to shut down. I have to turn the
electrical power at the surge protector off and then on
again. This is only happening with Word. All other
Microsoft Office icons open the programs when double
clicked. When opening Excel, Access or PowerPoint, my name
still appears as the registered user. Evidently something
happened when Word closed down this morning. Please help.
The program came installed on my Dell computer and I do
not have the discs to re-install. I would appreciate your
help. Thank you.
