First of all - send a Suspected Spyware Report through the Tools menu of
MSAS to the SpyNet.

Then turn off the System Restore: Start-> right click on My
computer ->Properties -> System restore -> select the box ' Turn off system
restore ' and press Apply, then exit.

(Remember to turn it on - i.e. deselect that box - again after cleaning the
system!!)

Next start the computer in the Safe mode (F8 during boot-up), run Windows
Explorer, go to your profile temporary folders (usually C:\Documents and
Settings\username\local settings\temp and c:\Documents and
Settings\username\local settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5) and
delete all the files in those directories and subdirectories. Then do a full
system scan with MS AntiSpyware (check the proper option under Scan
settings). Scan the computer with the antivirus software that you use. And
also with some other "cleaning" software such as:

Spybot Search&Destroy http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

HijackThis http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/

CWShredder http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3019.html

Ad-Aware SE Personal http://www.lavasoft.com/software/adaware/

McAfee Stinger http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Spy Sweeper - http://www.webroot.com

Ccleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com

If you run HijackThis you can check the log it prepares - just copy and
paste it to the http://www.hijackthis.de web page and click analyze button.

Need a free antivirus? Try this one http://www.free-av.com

And protect your system with antispyware, antivirus and firewall software.

Keep this software up to date.

Also KEEP THE SYSTEM UP TO DATE (http://www.windowsupdate.com)

Oh, that must be the ..., nope, maybe it's the ..., ah ah, can't be, so how
about the ..., well, gee, boy is it tough trying to find an UNNAMED target.
So, my guess based on the dearth of information provided is that Spyware
Doctor is issuing a false positive. Hey, it's as good a guess as any
considering the original post.

If the detections in question are tracking cookies, MSAS doesn't deal with
cookies.

Hi, I am using an unregistered version of Spyware Doctor and I am able to
remove all infections. When SWD completes the scan a window with all the
details opens. Across the bottom there are 4 buttons. "View Details", "Check
All", "Fix checked", "Finish". 1st click on "Check All" then "Fix All" when
completed click "Finish". There are only 2 advantages in registering SWD and
they are: Real Time Protection and Automatic Updates! If you want to explore
more shareware/freeware have a look at www.snapfiles.com

My beta copy of Ms Antispyware detects and quarantines Hotbar Adware every
night, but can't remove it. Each day I ask it to remove the quarantined
adware, each day it says it has done so, and each night it detectsw it again.
Is this a short-coming of the MS Antispyware?

Boot into Safe Mode and run MSAS there.

Some people forget that they were once "NEWBIE" computer users and then turn
into "know it alls" with a low intelligence that could not slip under a
snakes belly!!!

Before I was directed to your reply, I was directed to a Symantec site which
has a specific program (also free) to remove the Hotbar Adware. It seems to
have worked and the adware is gone.

run the anti spyware program again. write down the location of the suspected
spyware. then do this:
click start and then click on run
type in regedit (one word)
a window will appear split in two. look for the location of the spyware from
what you write down, and simply delete it. it is usually in the form of a
folder. good luck.
