cannot remove printer

Running vista home premium on an HP dv6000 laptop.
After my Canon i550 died, I tried to remove it.
Start>Control Panel>Printers>(right click)>Delete
It does not remove.

Also, I have a question.
How do you designate one printer as default?

Go to Control Panel>Programs> uninstall a Program.
Printer software should be there.

Default: Right-click on its icon >Set as default.
