Cannot Remove Archive Folder

I used File-->Open-->Personal Folders (.PST) to attach my Archive folder to
my current PST. When I finished, I tried to close it and all I get is a
message that says:

"Unable to expand the folder. The set of folders could not be opened"

I know I can delete my profile and rebuild it (a real pain), but does anyone
know of a shorter, faster, better alternative?

This has happened to me in the past and I can't figure out what I am doing
wrong.

Locate the archive and use scanpst.exe to check it for errors.
