"Cannot record into files like the current file"

I am doing a simple recording of a WAV file but keeps
getting the above error message. My mic works as I use it
on SKYPE everyday but on simple recording tests, it fails.
steps:

1. start/programs/accessories/entertainment/sound recorder
2. click New, the click the red button
3. Error msg: "Your audio hw cannot record files like the
current file. To record create a new document."

Can some one help point me to the right settings?

You coulds try seeign what type of file it is trying to
record. To start with open sound recorder, and go to EDIT

Audio Properties and see what your recording device is.

You can also check the type of file it is trying to record
under FILE > Properties, and the click convert now. Try it
as PCM, 16 bit, 22.05 kHZ - if not already. Play arond
with differeing settings and see if it changes things at
all.

Thanks for the tips. The setting-PCM, 16 bit, 22.05 kHZ
works. I had tried others that didnt work but this is now
solved.
