Cannot reconnect without rebooting

Can anyone help me?
After I have been connected to the internet via my 56k
ext modem I have to reboot to reconnect to the internet
again. I can dial up OK but I cannot send or receive mail
or connect to any pages

No one can help you if you don't provide pertinent information. What ISP
are you using? Did you contact their technical support? Did this
problem always happen or is it new? If new, what changed? If your modem
is responding but you cannot connect, perhaps the dns settings are
wrong. First call your ISP's tech support and if you still need help,
post back here with details.
