Error message is:
Account: 'pop.central.cox.net', Server: 'pop.central.cox.net', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR An authentication mechanism MUST be entered',
Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number:
0x800CCC18

I have checked and unchecked authentication and SSL boxes, I have called my
ISP and they have reset my password, but nothing is working. What is the
problem with this program???

Have a look here for the settings.
Note - it says NOTHING about using port 995.....which is what your error
message states...

How can I figure out which port I should be using? Thanks!

The default, if it doesn't mention any sort of security setting. Just use
the default that Windows Mail uses. Delete the mail account, and create a
new one from scratch, using the instructions in the link I provided.

Link? :)
Looks like you forgot to include it Gordon?

Go to the tools menu>accounts>select your 'pop.central.cox.net'
account>properties>server tab>ensure that under
Outgoing Mail Server, put a check in My server requires authentication.
apply>OK

What link did you provide? I didn't see any. I'd guess this:

<http://support.cox.com/sdccommon/as...sprt_cid=4531f9ea-a8b1-4811-b98d-079427d18558>

It was written for Outlook Express, but should also work under
Windows Mail if it doesn't call for the HTTP protocol. It assumes
you start with the default port number, though.

Thank you to everyone who helped me with this. This seems to have done the
trick. I created a new account before and it seemed to help initially, but
the same behavior repeated itself within about an hour (the COX rep I spoke
with had no idea how to help me). Hopefully that's not the case this time and
this fix is permanent!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you! :)
