Cannot receive emails after shutting down laptop

No emails come into my inbox from the time I shut down the computer until I
turn it back on in the am. Any suggestions?
 
Don't turn off the computer? If your computer is off, and or, WinMail is
closed, you can't receive messages.

Leave it switched on and see what happens then?
 
Incredible! It stops working when powered off!
What will they think of next?
