Cannot read F:drive

When I boot up my computer, and I traverse into My
Computer, my computer does not even "know" or locate a F:
drive. Why does it not even "see" the F:drive? Someone
respond soon, thanks

So what is the F: drive supposed to be? Hard drive, CD-ROM, ZIP, USB, etc.
It would help if we know since the fix may be different for various types of
devices.

F drive, I mean the Cd-Rom drive, It does not even
acknowledge it being there.
