cannot put in standby mode

hi

last few days, my laptop had virus and the virus delete
my OS win xp, so i recover it . and now i cannot put my
computer in standby mode. so can you please tell me to
fix it? so my computer can put in standby mode.

What happens when you put the system into standby ? or is the standby option
no longer available ?
