cannot publish

I am having much the same problem as others. I am trying to publish my
web site to Comcast's server. I get the following error which appears
before any password prompt (probably a saved password - how do I clear
it?):

"Unable to open 'https://home.comcast.net/~tim.hanko'. Server error:
Possible causes:
1. The web server may not have the Frontpage server
Extensions installed.
2. The web server may be temporarily out of service.
3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the
proxy settings may be incorrect.
4. An error may have occurred in the web server.
If this server does not support the Frontpage server
extensions, frontpage may still be able to publish to the
server via FTP.

I have tried un installing and reinstalling FrontPage, installing
FrontPage on a different computer and publishing from there and
clearing all saved passwords. I've tried publishing to two other places
(Tripod and another Comcast user name).

I've been through everything at this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324843 and
several other KB articles and web sites.

I am not running through a proxy server; I can open the web page in a
browser after FTPing it and the server does have FPSE installed (I've
tried removing and reinstalling them several times).

I am using a Netgear router with the firewall on., Windows firewall is
off, no other firewall installed. I did try publishing with the cable
modem connected directly to the PC, bypassing the router altogether.

No matter what I try I keep getting the same error.

Any help would be appreciated. If I have left something out, I'll try
to provide more information.

Some cable companies block port 80 to prevent their customers running a web
server. This also prevents FrontPage from functioning correctly.
Check with your ISP (cable supplier) if they block port 80.

Thanks, guys.

I've been able to publish to Comcast before, so I don't think the first
reply is the problem - unless Comcast has changed something.

As far as the reply from David Berry, Comcast's directions for
publishing request the https://...

Copied from comcast.net:

Microsoft® FrontPage Settings
PUBLISHING DESTINATION: https://home.comcast.net/~your_user_name
USER NAME: (your comcast.net user name)
PASSWORD: (your comcast.net password)

I have tried both http and https, though, just in case. Neither works.

One other thing I tried that I forgot to mention was that I tried
creating a new one page web site as a test. No joy.

When you publish with HTTPS did you check the box for secure connection
required (or Encrypted connection required (SSL) for FrontPage 2003)? Also,
have you looked at the 2 articles on Comcast's site for using FP?

As I recall, when you type https the check box is automatically checked
for you (and vice versa), and I have been through all the steps in the
FAQ. I've also talked to Comcast several times, and they claim
everything is ok on their end.

More information.

I loaded an old PII-333 I had lying around with Windows XP Home and
FrontPage. No security patches, services packs, etc. Tried to publish
and...it worked. Go figure. I guess the next thing to try is install
XPSP2 and see if that makes a difference.

Seems then that the problem is somewhere on the PC (XP Pro) I have been
using. I did try publishing again from the XP Pro machine and got the
same error.

I did publish the site from the XP Pro box (shared accross the network,
obviously) so it seems the problem is not in the site itself.
I wonder if there are any issues with XPSP2 and FrontPage 2003.

You need to reset your Frontpage extentions.if you call the GEO cities htech
support they can reset them for you. It never fails me. When they reset it i
publish hust fine.

Comcast, although they provide FrontPage Extensions, does not support
them. I rebuilt my computer from scratch Saturday and still had the
same problem. I'm about to bail on Comcast altogether.
