Cannot open your default email folders.

I just installed Outlook 2007 on my new single-user Acer Vista Home computer.
When I first start Outlook (not Outlook Express), I get messages saying it's
configuring, migrating settings, and importing user data. Then another
message appears,
"Cannot open your default email folders. The server is not available."

Clicking OK or Cancel closes Outlook. Here's the understatement: It
shouldn't do that. :)

Can anyone help me get this running?

Thanks,
George

PS I have an Outlook 2000 .pst file to import, but only AFTER I get Outlook
up and running.

Try Control Panel (Classic View) Mail Icon, configure the correct type of
Connection add the accounts & data File, then test accounts

The Mail Icon doesn't exist in Vista, though I get the idea of what you say
needs doing, I'm not sure how to get it done in Vista. I'll explore a bit.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

You need to use Classic View in the Control Panel, though I believe, but
dont recollect there are other requirements if using Vista 64bit

If he's using Vista 64, he needs to look in the 32 bit control panel for
Mail.

There is no Mail icon on the Control Panel of my Vista. Besides ... this
isn't making sense. Here's the way it usually works:
1) Buy new Vista computer
2) Install Microsoft Office 2007
3) Startup Outlook and follow instructions

Outlook is aborting the process after giving the (subject line) message
above. These are both MS products. I don't understand why they aren't
working together, but wonder if it has something to do with Windows Mail
which came installed. Or, if not, why else?

Thanks for the efforts.

Ok ... finally found the Mail icon. Thanks to you both!

The email tab defaults to Comcast. On the data tab, it defaults to Personal
Folder (1).pst, not Outlook.pst. Is that as it should be?

If so, this t'aint the problem because the problem t'aint fixed. :(

The name of the PST is irrelevant. It's whatever you created it to be.

The first default pst created is outlook.pst a second pst created would be
outlook1.pst, the number would be incremented for each pst created
