Cannot open volume for direct access message

Every time that I try to run checkdisk at start up I get
this message and the checkdisk is not able to run. Does
anybody knows how to correct this problem? Please reply
 
Sounds like you're trying to run W9x scandisk.exe. Use chkdsk.exe instead.
