I have Windows XP professional and I have developed a
number of problems. The main problem is when I boot up
my pc it takes around 4 minutes before I see my
descktop. Then I am unable to open the start up menu or
any of the task bars along the bottom of the screen - all
I get is the egg timer. If I go into my computer via a
descktop icon - I can open Internet Explorer et...
Eventually my cursor goes from the egg timer and I am
able to open the start menu and task bars - but this can
take up to an hour! These problems started when I was
unable to open hyperlinks from Outlook 2003 and Internet
Explorer. I have reloaded IE6 and all is well apart from
i am unable to change the default web page - can anyone
help on that problem too? I have reinstalled XP,
defragged the hard disk, using Norton Disk Doctor and
also done a Win Doctor too. All came up ith no
problems! How can I get to open programmes from the
start menu in less than an hour?

Start/Run/type MSCONFIG and press Ente
Click the Startup ta
Uncheck/disable everything except your anti-virus program, if Norton, it will start with NA
Click Apply and OK - reboo
A small window will open that you have changed your config, just click to show no more
Now, if it did boot faster, you can go back to MSCONFIG and enable some of the program
you disabled, one at a time. When all of a sudden it hangs again/slows down you'l
which program is causing you the problem
P.S. Disabling/unchecking does NOT delete anything, only stops the program from loading
