Dear Sir / Madam
since the 11th December 2004 I have found that if I try and set up some ms
dos programs that I cannot open the install or run programs. I get an error
message which reads:
in blue header.... 16 bit Windows Subsystem
and then error message reads....
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. "Choose close" to terminate the
application.

I try ignore and close and nothing happens. This has just recently been
happening and I have had this problem before on another PC. It is very
annoying as I cannot install programs or open some which are on the hard
drive, which previously were no problem to open...
Please cpould you advise what I can do to rectify this.#
Yours Faithfully Dvae P Markey

Error Message: MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based program

This installaton program will reinstall the missing or corrupt Windows XP
system files command.com, autoexec.nt and config.nt. The absence or
corruption of one or more of these files causes a "16 Bit Subsystem" error.

If you are trying to do these things from the command prompt, you might try
going to Start-Run and type in "command". This brings up an older version
of DOS which is more compatible with some of the older DOS programs. It's
worth a try anyway.
