Please help.

When ever I try and open a new window, browser loads with
new page and no back button, and original window
disappears. What is going on?

Dave

Some web sites are hard coded to open up a new window if a link is clicked.
There is not much you can do about those.

You could try IE/Tools/Internet Options and go to the Advanced tab. Ensure
that the "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" is ticked.

Hope this helps.

Martin

This is not the problem as I am visiting websites that I
always visit and use to open a second window. I cannot
open a second IE window from any website, even right
clicking link on Yahoo. I checked and "reuse window is
ticked". What else could it be? Virus? Note: This is my
mom's computer and just returned after being away 2 weeks
and is new occurance. She does not know why is doing
either.

Dave, the only other thing I can think of is that some firewalls and anti
virus programs have pop up controls which may be stopping this. Have any
settings changes been made?
Have you - or anyone else - installed either the Google or Yahoo search
toolbars. These also have pop up stoppers embeded.

Martin

"reuse window is ticked"

If that wasn't a typo that could be your problem.
(You want it to be *unchecked*. I.e., don't reuse windows.)

Also I think that that may be one of the options which requires a restart
before it comes into effect. So close all instances of IE and verify
that iexplore.exe is no longer an active process before deciding if
the change worked or not. You could also doublecheck that the option
is unchecked without relying on an IE window by using the Control Panel
Internet Options applet.

Good luck

Ok. Reuse window for launching shortcuts is unchecked. However, I still cannot open a second window via right clicking "Open in new window". Furthermore, I cannot open second browser via clicking IE button. Use to able to do this

Again, whenever a second browser should open, it does not. Instead, the borwser reloads over itself with the back button grayed out

What is going on, please help? This is driving me nuts
