cannot open photos in email

I receive emails with photos but the photo box is blank - except for a small
box in the upper left hand corner with a red "X" inside. No matter what I di
I cannot open the photo.
 
What is the size of the message? It may not include the photo. Also check
that linked images are not blocked under Tools | Options | Security.

Is this happening with all received emails containing images?
Go to Tools, Options, Read, and make sure "Read all messages in plain text"
is unchecked.
Then go to the Security tab and select the Internet zone; also uncheck "Do not
allow attachments...", and uncheck "Block images..."

If all those settings were already correct, it is quite likely that the sender made
a mistake in the way he included a picture, or the picture resides on a
remote server which is temporarily not accessible.
